I love jackets! I very rarely show my arms as I have psoriasis on my elbows and bingo wings – also known in the UK as fudubadubs! For women who are 40+ and over a size 16 it’s good to jazz a jacket up with accessories so you don’t look frumpy. So here is a step by step guide.
- If the jacket is brightly coloured or patterned wear plain clothes underneath, like the black camisole and black stretch pants I am wearing with the beautiful new Taj Mahal plus size jacket from Swish Fashion.
- Wear it with a brooch that makes a statement and is a conversation piece - here I am wearing my Rotary pin with my red jacket (above). This jacket is made from heavy material so can be worn with some very noticeable brooches.
- With a plain jacket wear statement jewellery, for example, my (free) crab necklace and earrings from Helping Animals at Risk.
- With a patterned jacket like the Taj Mahal – a necklace in one colour is good, like this orange necklace that picks out one of the colours in the jacket. This is a beautiful plus size jacket as it has black borders to match with black pants, dresses or skirts.
- This plus size purple silk jacket is also from Swish Fashion, and could be worn with a purple and green scarf. The fabric is too beautiful to put a brooch on it, and many brooches would be too heavy and weigh it down.
- If a jacket needs to be worn open like this beautiful jacket from Kuala Lumpur, a white camisole is good and makes the look casual not frumpy.
- It is great to be able to get really light jackets like this animal print jacket from Swish Fashion that looks just beautiful with this gold statement pendant, and I am amazed that I have been able to leave it in the shop rather than buy it!!
- Wearing a light jacket over a dress has been a revelation to me as I haven’t worn dresses much in the past as my top half is bigger than my bottom half.
I love winter with its opportunities to look fabulous in plus size jackets with different scarves, brooches, necklaces and earrings.
