I love all our weather seasons, living in Melbourne I am grateful for the ‘four seasons’ I can unexpectedly experience in one day. The big PLUS as the weather cools down into Autumn and Winter is, it’s a whole lot easier to get dressed up with fabulous cozy layers.
A new season doesn’t mean a whole new wardrobe. With the addition of just a couple of new pieces, you can completely transform and refresh your existing wardrobe.
1. Pick up one or two key new pieces to work back with your existing winter wardrobe.
I love the denim on denim classic, timelessness of this Chambray Shirt and leggings. Both looks make dressing on the weekend stylish and effortless. What a perfect shirt to take away on a long weekend holiday. Team it with denim pants, or black Ponte pants. I will also team mine knotted at the front 'Roman Holiday Style', over a classic stretch pencil skirt and short black boots this winter.
2. Spend more on good quality basics in neutral colours.
Ok, this is not a new trend but this is a trend I am setting for myself. After all these pieces will be the foundation pieces for many great outfits. Take your time to invest in quality and look for fabrics and styles you feel great in. Swish Plus Size Fashion have a great range of jersey basics for all sizes and shape preferences.
3. Unlock your personal style with a brilliant bold new piece.
Don't forget you have a personality and Yes, you can buy that stand alone piece.
One of my clients fell in love with this jacket and while she had already bought her dress as mother of the bride, for her daughter's Scottish Castle wedding next month, she knew she had to have this piece to wear to the family luncheon get together, leading up to the big day.
4. Create interest, by contrasting structure and flow in the same outfit.
The same way we contrast proportions - by pairing a loose fit top with a fitted pant or a loose legged pant with a fitted top - we can super charge ordinary outfits, into dynamic star power, by contrasting structure and flow in the same outfit.
Team a structured jacket with a loose flowing skirt or pair a structured pant with a loose flowing top, both play upon two different textures and lift your style game.
5. Invest in a coat that works in with your existing wardrobe.
I love a great coat and there are so many options available right now. Soft hues like blush pink, blush caramel and ivory grey are on my radar this Winter.
This gorgeous wrap coat is the perfect neutral cover. This coat will work equally as a glamorous respite over a patterned first layer, or look simply stunning, over a black silhouette of casual basics.
Why not donate the clothing you no longer wear, to help and empower another woman’s life. And another PLUS about shopping all this seasons new arrivals, is the opportunity to help and empower other woman, by donating the clothing you no longer wear. The global success of charities that empower and dress women to help them rejoin the workforce and pursue their dreams. Dress for Success is global and you can get involved either by donating the clothing you no longer wear, or by volunteering.
Here in Melbourne Fitted for Work, in the CBD is a similar organization. I love this idea, of giving clothing that may no longer fit our lifestyles, but would absolutely fit and reshape someone else’s life.
