I live in Melbourne so I have more than one everyday coat as our weather can change from freezing, to more freezing, to hot sometimes, even in winter. Well ok hot may be an exaggeration but lugging a heavy coat over my arm with my handbag and laptop can get pretty hot after a while.
Originally a Sydneysider it’s amazing how much I love my Melbourne winter wardrobe – I honestly cannot stand being cold, I am known to sleep with a beanie and at least two hot water bottles.
I do however love my winter wardrobe, I know unequivocally that the trick to staying warm is clever layering so that you don’t leave the house looking like the new Michelin Mascot!
I also love the fact that because I have bought well, my coats look beautiful and new, even if I bought them last year or a few years before that.
And that’s why when we make a purchase for new Winter clothing, they must be an investment. A new coat that will polish a whole look together – a beautiful new coat may cover the fact that your favourite plus size basics worn underneath may have only one season left in them.
In Winter there are trends, there are classics, and there are wardrobe essentials every woman should have in her closet, no matter what her lifestyle, profession or personal style. These items are the base of every great, versatile wardrobe, and with good care, they will last season after season:
1. The gorgeous statement Jacket– This is the standout piece that will go over everything you own from jeans, classic black pants, skirts and dresses; and no matter what you team this piece with you are guaranteed to look super stylish and warm.
Beneath your fingers there is nothing to compare to the luxurious melting softness of this knock out new season Winter Swish 8420 Lambiekins coat in a Red or Mocha.
Stand out New Season colour– Appropriate for casual Friday’s, date night or weekend wanderings, dark denim is the key to chic (and figure flattery) when wearing jeans.
2. Perfect Black pant– This pant is especially flattering as it is higher waisted, perfect for our curvy hips; this is a must-have to wear under long line tops and cardis to give a streamlined stylish silhouette.
3. Luxurious cozy knit– Classic, chic and versatile at its best; take your pick between the Shibori Two Tone Cardigan or the equally gorgeous Shibori Contrast Top; don’t forget to add a gorgeous statement necklace in autumnal gold tones or your favourite as pictured here for extra polish.
4. The piece you never knew would suit you – This beautiful 8603 suede vest is so soft to touch, it melts under your fingers and will last through the trends, season after season. Anita at Swish Malvern bought this piece and said she felt absolutely fabulous in it! She wore it with black Ponte Pointe Pants a heeled boot shoe and a beautiful black and print top underneath
(Plus look it has pockets – we always love pockets!).
5. Classic Winter– When all else fails, choose a classic long line cardigan. It will keep your look polished and put-together. I can just see myself on the Amalfi coast in this beautiful cardigan – I always dream of warmer climates when the cold hits here in Melbourne!
This long line Cardi is my absolute favourite!
(The 8409 is a timeless classic, as worn here it is the perfect statement cardigan, elegant and polished. It is a great investment piece as you can easily transition between seasons with this piece. This long lone cardigan would be perfect to wear to the airport for your next holiday, as it will easily fold onto your lap in flight and pack lightly into your carry-on suitcase.).
6. The Stud Detail Coat – This chic inky black puffer is a sophisticated take on the classic puffer. It has a beautiful long line length which adds to its stylish impact. This is statement dressing without too much fuss and is as polished put together with a pump, or a boot shoe.
Our options this winter to look fantastically stylish and keep snug and warm are endless, and Australian made at Swish Plus Size Fashion. And if you invest well and take great care of your wardrobe it will last this season and a few more to come.
